New Books, Last Night

After a little pushing from Tessa I finally got A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick.

I mentioned my blog to two friends and they looked at me blankly and said:

“You haven’t read A Scanner Darkly?”

The girl looked quite disappointed and I felt a little ashamed, I countered:

“Yeah, but I wanted to read the book before I saw the movie and…”

She looked at me. Quickly and without words the book was shoved into my hands.

She then started to read me from Jeff Noon’s Falling out of Cars

“This is my favourite book.”

I listened to her read with passion from the book. Lost in the words I was woken suddenly:

“Do you want me to continue? This next bit isn’t so long.”

I nodded hungrily. And she continued.
Finally she stopped and I asked if I could borrow the book.

“You should read Vurt [also Jeff Noon] first.”

That’s how my reading list got longer, I’m currently reading A Scanner Darkly.

  1. A Scanner Darkly is undoubtedly one of Phil’s finest works.
I’m glad that you’re reading it.
