Today I spend my day at the Red Hat Open Cloud Tour, this is what happened today:

Just heard the opening by Rajiv Sodhi, who is here despite having a baby due any moment.

Margaret J. Rimmler’s keynote was interesting. One of the key takeaways being openness RedHat customers should have the choice to remain portable and replace RedHat, if that is what they want. Read the rest of this entry »

Masterclass ‘Security’ – Hackner Security Intelligence #crime

leave a comment »

Last Saturday I was invited to go to a Physical Security Workshop organized by Independent Films to promote the movie Flypaper. The workshop was given by Thomas Hackner of Hackner Security Intelligence, an independent security auditing company.

The workshop started with a large amount of statistics on the current rates of crime in Austria, and a discussion of the methods by which property crimes are commited. Next there was some practical analysis of the security measures which are currently implemented in securing different classes of objects – houses, office, secure facilities, etc – and the various security measures that are implemented to ensure a certain level of security.

And as with any workshop there was a destructive and non-destructive practicum for most of the items discussed: windows, doors, locks, chains and social engineering. Besides from lockpicking and designing tools to circumvent security non-destructively, we also got to break into a door by destroying the lock and manually manipulating the locking mechanism.

It was great fun!

Yesterday was organized using . I myself went to the one organized by in Amsterdam.

I was slightly late in arriving, but caught the tail end of the presentations and the mixer. There were some interesting subjects covered, many of which I’ve covered or promoted in the past, of the unknowns I liked Online Pioneers and .

I think that there should be more grassroots activities like this, and I also believe that activities on a larger scale should be organized. Thanks to and PifWorld for organizing.

Amsterdam Local Authority Promotes LinkedIn #linkedin

I was send this by a public official in the Amsterdam Local Authority, a brilliant example of how LinkedIn is being integrated into businesses and local government. The Dutch government is already pretty LinkedIn, just like the US government. What is funny are the statistics, over 70% of the reactions to the poll were negative.

9 Streets of Street Fair

with one comment

This Sunday – September 7th – in the Jordaan in Amsterdam there is a braderie, street fair from 11:00 until 19:00. I love the area round the 9 streets, 9 straatjes, and if the weather stays good it should be a nice day wondering.

Here’s a map if you need it:
