The first action figure I remember getting was Captain America, with a little plastic shield. I also had The Avengers comic books. Captain America was symbolic of America for me, just like Superman. I was very young and impressionable.
One of my first real American comics was Thor, I really liked it. Sadly it remained at this comic, I never bought any others. I can only vaguely remember a character with wild blond hair and a Norse helmet. I liked Thor and if I really search hard I should be able to find it somewhere.
Marvel releasing Thor the movie on May 19th 2011.
They are releasing X-Men Origins: Wolverine April 30th, on Queensday? With the nice weather we’ve been having in the last years there is little point to pick that as the release date. It’s competing with one of the biggest street parties of the year. Then again it surprises me that cinemas are open on Queensday anyway.
I’m sure I’ll see the movie at some point, but certainly not on Queensday.
According to License! Hasbo is making the toys and Sega will be making the game, but they sold the rights for Halloween costumes to Disguise. I didn’t even think about Halloween, which is probably why I’m not in Licensing.
Had I mentioned that Marvel turned 70 this year?
There are a number of greetings for this year, Mattel’s Barbie turns 50 this year. You’d never guess to look at her.
DC Comics is turning 75, and Batman is 70 which makes him a year younger than Superman. Don’t ask me how old Albert, he must be pushing up the daisies by now.
Marvel also turns 70, it founded as Timely Publications in 1939. Their first hero was Human Torch.
Sesame Street turns middle aged at 40.
I saw this Wired article on all the comic based movies coming to the big screen: Comics-Based Movies Keep on Comin’ With a list like that you can’t be surprised that they missed an X-Men movie, X-Men Origins: Magneto.
