Screen Recording

Screen Recording

I’ve been asked to create a video tutorial for a project I’m working on. So I decided to try the QuickTime feature. It was simple to do and set up.

One of the advantages, besides being native and free, was that I was able to select only fragment of the screen to record. I would have liked to record one application, so I could switch between windows without it effecting the video.

Geek Query
I wonder whether I could output to a FIFO and stream it to the network using VLC… 😉

How to Record Your Screen on Mac

There are many times when you’ll want to make a recording of what you’re doing on-screen. You may want to capture some steps for an instructional video, or try your hand at machinima. Here’s how to d…

6 Months of Security Links #2011

leave a comment »

I’m a regular curator of daily links, and like to give overviews of my collection of curated links and posts. This is partly as there are some good sources and articles in here and as I am working on a research project which I started based on a number of books I read.

I’m sure you’ll find something interesting in the items below – there are some gems in the list – and I dare to hazard the guess you might learn something you wanted to know. 🙂

TinyChat Creator Quits Day Job? #unconfirmed

TinyChat Logo

You might know as one of the placed where hangs out, this is not the only thing that it’s known for. 😉

Yesterday one of my little demons told me that the creator of TinyChat had quit his day job and was focussing on the development of TinyChat. I was wondering how accurate that was until I looked at the CrunchBase profile and the company itself. It looks as if they have gotten 1.5 million in funding from a number of sources, which means that this is quite possibly accurate.

For those who are interested, they are looking for a developer.

Fraunhofer finding MP3 replacement #research

leave a comment »

The Fraunhofer institute is trying to find a replacement for MP3, their current project is designed to last 10 years. Do we really need to have a replacement for MP3 sooner than that? The updates for MPEG came in closer succession, but were required because compression of video signals had such high priority.

You might say MP4, but it is actually MPEG4 part 14 and is not en encoding format, but a transport or container format. The encoding of the content is still done with MP3, AAC or other format.

I wonder what will be the trick to further compress the data, and whether it will be even more closely related to the MPEG4 standard.
